I started studying with Roy while I was still in high school around 1962. It took me awhile to switch my embouchure from top lip (from my classical teacher, Frank Venezia) to bottom lip. By the time I was a senior in college, I was covering lead in the stage band. I am now 81 and am still able to play as a result of using the Roy Stevens techniques. I no longer play the lead book. I switched from the Costello mouthpiece to a deeper cup to get a bigger sound. Now playing a Wedge.
